Longus' Daphnis and Chloe (Wpc Classics)
Published in Paperback by Wimbledon Pub Co (August, 2003)
Authors: Edmund Cueva, Shannon Byrne, and John Traupman
Average review score:

Great text for beginning Greek
As a Greek student, I can't say enough about how great this text is. The running vocabulary is immensely helpful, as is the running commentary. As anybody who's gotten frustrated by constantly going back and forth between the text and various commentaries can understand, it's very helpful to have it write there, underneath the text. The commentary provides much needed help for a beginning Greek student. Edmund Cueva knew just when to nudge student readers in the right direction with his notes, and when to give them a harder shove. A superb text.

Make your summer garden last all year
Published in Unknown Binding by Lyceum Books ()
Author: Patricia Shannon Kulla
Average review score:

A great resource for self-reliance
This book of practical gardening advice is a superb value. It tells how to extend the growing season, various simple methods to store your produce, and details on storing specific fruits and vegetables. If you want to save money growing your own food, if you want to have tasty home-grown produce all year long, if you want to know how to store purchased produce without processing it, this book is for you. You really can make your summer garden last all year!

There is a section on alternative methods to store produce. Not everything has to be canned, frozen, dehydrated, etc. And not all produce storage has to be indoors. Read how to store food in your attic or basement, how to build a root cellar, how to store produce in the ground or under straw mounds, and so on.

There are many pages of information about storing your produce, giving details such as ideal storage temperature, moisture level, and any materials that extend the life of your stored produce items. Also covered are which are most suited to which storage methods.

Another section details methods and plants for winter gardening. Learn how to build cold frames, sheltered nursery beds, and even a simple greenhouse. Learn about plants you can grow in the cellar in winter, others you could grow in a cool closet, or elsewhere in your home. Learn about crops that prefer cooler weather, to plant in spring and fall, and those that will grow outdoors well into winter with just the shelter of a home-made green house.

The Best Book On E-mail Marketing Around
Working in advertising, I've read more books on e-mail marketing than I care to count. Most, I've found, repeat themselves. Not this one. Ms. Kinnard is an eloquent writer, making it simple for anyone new to e-mail marketing to execute the book's many ideas on the best uses of the medium. In fact, I'm recommending it to all users of our e-mail service. If you have a small business and want to start e-mail marketing, buy this book. You won't need another.

Maternity & Women's Health Care

Updated.... complete.... excellent resource
My copy of this new edition just arrived, and I'm thrilled with it! More color, more summaries, more of everything... Certainly a nursing text book is not going to hit the Best Seller List, but this one should be on every nurse's wish list. While its target audience is nursing students, the book is a great reference for experienced nurses, too. It covers all aspects of women's health care, from well woman exams, to birth control, and pregnancy to menopause.

New additions to this, the 7th Edition, include expanded information on health and risk assessment, psychosocial issues, Spanish/English translations to facilitate care, information on alternative and complementary health care, and a CD ROM with addtiional resources, study guides, and illustrations.

The editors and contributors have provided an excellent resource for nurses involved in all phases of women's health care.

The Medieval Inquisition
Published in Paperback by Michael Glazier Books (September, 1991)
Author: Albert Clement Shannon
Average review score:

Excellent introduction to a difficult subject
This is a fine introduction to a subject that is often understood and even misrepresented. Shannon provides an overview of what has been written about the subject, and then provides a survey of the events. He relies heavily on source documents to make his points, which makes the book particularly valuable. Highly recommended (especially at this price)!

More Stories to Solve: Fifteen Folktales from Around the World
Published in Paperback by HarperTrophy (06 March, 2001)
Authors: George Shannon and Peter Sis
Average review score:

Logic outside the box - pure fun
This sequel is worthy of its predecessor; it too consists of folktales, very concisely told, that in some sense are a riddle, a puzzle, a play on words ... These stories are presented as problems to solve.

A major strength of the book is the variety of sources of the tales - Korean, Liberian, Kasmiri, Russian, Bengali, Chilean, Mexican, Burmese; in fact many of the stories could have come from any of a number of cultures. The illustrations add to the interest of the book for its intended audience.

The only weakness is that it offer no alternative answers or requires knowledge that may not be familar to the reader. If children are reading the book independently, they may not have the confidence to recognize that their answer is a clever as the one given in the text.

This is a fun book that should be enjoyed by parent and child.

Nathan Hale
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2002)
Authors: Shannon Zemlicka and Craig Orback
Average review score:

Wonderfully Illustrated and Painted!
I have been following the emerging artistic talent of Craig Orback (the illustrator of Nathan Hale: Patriot Spy) for a few years now. I have always admired his work, and now, with this book (his first I believe), I get to see how talented this young artist REALLY is.

His use of color and composition for his work is stunning and the artwork helps bring this story to life in a really great way.
The illustrations/paintings recall older, classic, illustration styles from books like Treasure Island and Robinson Crusoe.

Really well done!

Never Letting Go of Hope
Published in Paperback by Bonneville Books (12 April, 2001)
Author: Shannon Guymon
Average review score:

Hope is Eternal!
This is a wonderful story. It brought forward all the fears, and struggles we all have in our relationships with other races. But as we accept, with all our hearts the real person, the soul of another being, our love grows and expands. Our circle of family expands, and then hope really can spring eternal. If Cassie can accept the chalenges, so can we. Great little story, would love to hear more from this author!!! We need more stories that are uplifting, and to beable to read a book with out foul language or vile sexual content, is wonderful. I could recommend this book to any one, of any age, or race.
